Health Care Bill Vote Postponed

President Obama has indicated that a vote on his proposed Health Care Bill will be postponed until late September or as late as mid-October.  Obama is loosing political traction with Republicans in Congress doing everything within their power to slow down the process.

Mr. Obama had previously pushed for lawmakers to pass his proposed bills by Aug. 7th.  The President has acknowledged that this date is no longer attainable.

President Obama stated, “Some of the folks sincerely want to get it right, and we want to give them enough time to get it right. We don’t want to just do it quickly, we want to do it right.”

“But some folks have specifically said on the other side: The more we can delay, the better chance we have of killing the bill,” he said.

Health Care Does Not Need to Be Fixed

Since the 1950s we have debated the health care issue.  The two main questions we have been asking ourselves and our politicians is   ‘How should we fix it?’  and ‘Who should fix it?’, because we all know that it is broken.

I would like to attack this debate from a different angle.  I pose the question: Is our health care system truly broken?  Does our health care system need to be fixed?

I tend to lean towards the side of the question that says health care is not truly broken.  Sure there are always better ways of providing services and treating patients, but I don’t believe hiking up taxes on the rich and poor, along with still enforcing a premium upon the vast majority of society is a fix at all.  Putting the health care system into the hands of our inept government would only make the problem worse.

I think a growing majority of Americans will agree with me.  A new New York Times poll (surprisingly) shows that favor towards Obama’s plan is falling.

Rasmussen Reports: “Americans are fairly evenly divided on the health care reform proposals working their way through Congress, but most remain convinced that the plans will raise costs and hurt the quality of the care they receive.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 47% are in favor of the reform effort proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats while 49% are opposed. Those figures include 25% who Strongly Favor the plans and 41% who are Strongly Opposed.”

An interesting side note:

“Support for Republican and Democratic congressional candidates changed little this week in the latest edition of the Generic Ballot.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 42% would vote for their district’s Republican congressional candidate while 39% would opt for their Democratic opponent.

Support for Democratic candidates is up one point from last week, while Republican support remains unchanged.”

Martin Luther King Jr. Was a Republican!

071409_mlkbillboard

A group of Black Republicans in Houston had posted a billboard claiming that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican.  However Dr. King never claimed a party affiliation.

“Who knew?

A billboard proclaiming that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican has stirred a religious and political hornets’ nest in Houston, where a church leader is trying to draw black voters into the Republican Party.

The jumbo-sized roadside ad made its contentious claim for about a week — until a local black activist charged that the sign unjustly politicized King’s legacy and was hurting his community by telling a “blatant lie.”

“Martin Luther King may have very well believed in some of the Christian principles of the Republican Party, but Dr. Martin Luther King was not a Republican or a Democrat,” said Quanell X, who heads the New Black Panther Party in Houston.”

You can read the rest of the article here.

“…Quanell X, who held a press conference late last week to rally against the sign and ended up in a shouting match over the legacy of the murdered civil rights icon.”

“Quanell X told FOXNews.com he was pleased that he had succeeded in getting the billboard removed. He added that King would never have embraced the present-day GOP, which he said had “racist elements.”

I challenge Quanell X to show me and the rest of the country these so-called “racist elements.”  I’m not looking for the fringe of the party, I’m looking for mainstream racist elements.

“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would not be with the party of Newt Gingrich, he would not be with the party of Sarah Palin, he would not be with the party of Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage or Sean Hannity,” he said.”

Martin Luther King, Jr. would not be involved with the New Black Panther Party.  He did not believe in militant activism.

I believe that Quanell X (what a name!) is a racist.  I believe this because he takes so much offense to Raging Elephants claim that Dr. King is a Republican and because of his involvement in the New Black Panther Party.  There is no reason to demand that a billboard ad be removed.  It does no harm to anyone, if anything it should challenge everyone to question their “political ideology.”

Hate Crimes Against White People Do Happen

I’ve never experienced a Hate Crime.  Nor do I ever want to experience a Hate Crime.  These are unfortunate events that happen to people all across the country and across the globe.  However I believe that there is a misconception about Hate Crimes in the United States.  Myth:  Hate Crimes are only directed towards minorities and are not directed toward whites.  I believe this myth is propagated  by the media’s bias.  The media is willing to jump to conclusions and report certain stories, so as to not appear racist or show bias.  However, in doing so the media is acting in a racially motivated way that leads to bias.

There is a fine line the media needs to tread with this issue.

Here is a news story that will not make national headlines:  Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family.

Akron police say they aren’t ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.

But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.

It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend’s home in South Akron.

Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ”This is our world” and ”This is a black world” as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.”  – excerpt from the Akron Beacon Journal

Notice the date of the attack, June 7th, the date of the article is July 7th.  Is the media a little late in reporting this incident?
